Snapshots from action in Akron

AKRON, Ohio (WMC) -- Faces familiar in West Michigan were in the news as Jurisdictional Conference went through its second day of business...
Soon after the announcement of Bishop Deborah Kiesey's appointment to the Michigan Area, Ryan Minear (Member of West Michigan's delegation) explained "The Mitten" in a hallway encounter. Early Facebook responses to the photo (shown on homepage) commended Battle Creek cereals and Muskegon beaches to our new episcopal leader.
Erik Alsgaard, Editor of the Michigan Area Reporter, sat down with Bishop Keaton soon after the announcement of his assignment to Illinois Great Rivers. Find that interview here.
Benton Heisler and Laurie Dahlman provided worship leadership in an afternoon service celebrating the ministry of Bishop Linda Lee (shown above). Lee was elected to the episcopacy in 2000 and served the Michigan and Wisconsin Areas.
Kennetha Bigham-Tsai (Pastor Kalamazoo Milwood UMC) was nominated to the denomination's Connectional Table along with Mike Slaughter (West Ohio), Doris Clark (Indiana) and Rachel Birkhahn-Rommelfanger (North Illinois). Created at the 2004 General Conference, the Connectional Table was formed to serve as both the visioning body of the church and the steward of resources to carry out the vision of the denomination worldwide. Valerie Mossman-Celestin (Director of Haitian Artisans for Peace International) and John Boley (Pastor Kalamazoo First UMC) were nominated to the North Central Jurisdiction Mission Council. This is John's second appointment.
