Bishop Deb calls Area to respond

We have all watched the news reports of the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. To see such destruction – to hear the heart-wrenching stories – to be inspired by the heroism and unselfish actions of those in the midst of this tragedy – all have touched my heart. And I am reminded of the words of Paul:
“If one member suffers, all suffer together with it.”
One of our greatest strengths as a United Methodist Church, is our connectionalism. From our beginnings, we have believed that we can do the work of God better together than alone. And at no time is the power of that philosophy more apparent than when major tragedy strikes.
As our sisters and brothers are suffering, we have the opportunity – and the responsibility - to help in whatever ways we can to offer hope and healing.
UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is already working on the ground in the areas affected by Hurricane Sandy helping those in need. To that end, I am asking each local church take up a Special Offering on November 11th for UMCOR.
